Philosophy Klinic offers primary and complementary health care, mental health care and community health services to enhance individual and community capacity. We offer service to woman, men and transgendered people. Our counselling services operate from a feminist, pro-choice perspective that is welcoming of people of any and all sexual orientation and gender identities, and works to support our clients in making their own informed decisions.
Commitment Volunteer training for the Crisis Program and Sexual Assault Crisis Program occurs 4 times per year. Volunteer training is 14 weeks in length with training sessions from 6 to 9:30 in the evening, twice weekly. As each training session is very important and full of information, if you miss more than 2 evenings, or both sessions of a two-session topic, you will be asked to leave. If you are unable to complete training, you are welcome to return at a time when the training schedule suits your availability.
In each training session there is room for 25 volunteers, with a maximum of 8 of these spots for women entering the Sexual Assault Crisis Program. Once training is completed each program has different commitment expectations:
Crisis:
SACP
Volunteers shift in the Crisis Program are available Monday to Sunday in the following time blocks: 8am to noon Noon to 4pm 4pm to 8pm 8pm to midnight
Volunteers shift in the Sexual Assault Crisis Program are available in the following time blocks: Monday to Friday: Saturday and Sunday: 8am to Noon 9am to 1pm Noon to 4pm 1pm to 5pm 4pm to 8pm 5pm to 9pm 6pm to 10pm
Due to our limited resources and our need for 24-hour coverage, each shift has a maximum capacity. While we work hard to be flexible to when our volunteers are available, we also require flexibility in our volunteers’ availability. Klinic values education and employment experience as an asset in our volunteers, but we also strongly recognize the value of personal lived experience. We welcome participation in our volunteer program to people of all cultural backgrounds and experiences. However, due to the nature of this work, we do require that volunteers have a certain level of English language competencies.
We have high expectations of our volunteers, but also greatly value our volunteers. At any given point, we have between 100 and 150 volunteers, and we certainly could not operate our services the way that we do without volunteers.
If this sounds like an opportunity that is right for you and you are in a place where you can commit the time and effort listed above, we would love to hear from you.
Once you submit this form your name is placed on our waitlist. You will be contacted by phone to arrange an interview prior to the training opportunity that you will be offered a spot in. If you have any further questions, you can email them to: volunteerintake@klinic.mb.ca.
